Today, I will do nothing

Monday, May 15th, 2006

There are some benefits to working for a 35,000 employee company.  I have excellent benefits that cost me very little, and the company stock that I buy is generally stable and increasing.  There are also some negatives.  Today is full of negatives.  Today, I will do nothing.

Here are the things that I plan on doing today:

Online training on our Code of Conduct

Complete peer reviews of my coworkers for our annual performance review

Begin my self assessment for my annual performace review

That should take me pretty much all day, and into tomorrow.  Then my boss will have to review and make changes to what I prepared.  Then we will have to have a meeting about those things.  Finally, he will go through whatever terrible process he goes through, and I will be told what my annual merit increase will be, if anything.  Finally, that will take effect sometime in July.

This is not a speedy pain free process.  I will likely curse it some in the upcoming weeks.  Pending the amount of my merit increase, I could be cursing it all the way through July.

Oh well.  Like I said, there are positives and there are negatives.  At this point the positives outweight the negatives.

(ps.  I installed new EGT, oil pressure, and oil temp guages in my car this weekend.  I am still doing some troubleshooting, but I should have a post about that process in the next day or two.)
